Den 21. marts 1945. I 75-året for bombardementerne af Shellhuset og Den Franske Skole udkommer to romaner, hvor skilningen sidder helt perfekt på de danske modstandsfolk.

Den 21. marts 1945: Royal Air Force smadrer Shellhuset, nazisternes forhadte hovedkvarter i København. Men ved en katastrofal fejl bomber de også Den Franske Skole. 86 sagesløse skolebørn og 18 voksne omkommer i helvedesilden.
I Jonas Kleinschmidts ungdomsroman Englene over København er Johannes gamle farfar lige død. Han fortalte gerne om besættelsen, men når han kom til de engelske bombefly, der fløj hen over København, begyndte han at græde. Hvad var det, han ikke kunne fortælle? Oprevet og ulykkelig over farfarens død stikker Johannes af, drøner af sted på en gammel cykel. Så ser han en dreng, der taber en strikhue. Han råber ham an. ”Tak, mester,” siger drengen. ”Jeg hedder Raf.”
Pludselig – vupti! – er vi i marts 1945, kort før den skæbnesvangre dag på Frederiksberg Allé. At Jonas Kleinschmidt benytter tidsrejsen som trylletrick og litterær præmis, skal man bare acceptere. Om det er et ormehul, eller en psykologisk sorgtunnel, kommer ud på ét.

Jonas Kleinschmidts roman fornyer og forandrer intet i den store fortælling om modstandskampen. Englene over København – der kan læses som: Englænderne over København – er skåret i solide prototyper med Rich’s og Leo Mathiesen og det hele. Og som mentalitetsportræt knæsætter den alle opbyggelige fortællinger om frihedskæmperne. Som Raf (et akronym for Royal Air Force og far læst bagfra) siger: ”Det eneste, jeg er bange for, er at dø uden at have udrettet noget. Uden at have levet.” Og så læser han Krigere uden Vaaben, oven i købet med en dedikation ”til Raf fra Morten Nielsen”.
Også i Jacob Weinreichs underholdende, skabelonskårne krig- og kærligheds-roman Pigen fra Den Franske Skole, sidder skilningen perfekt på heltene. Vi møder Harald, hvis tvillingebror blev dræbt, da han den 9. april forsøgte at forsvare Danmarks grænse som udstationeret i 4. bataljon, bevæbnet med en gammel herrecykel og et 50 år gammel repetergevær.
Siden har Harald næret et intenst had til nazisterne. Da han samtidig forelsker sig i en kvinde, som han har involveret i frihedskampen, uden at kunne beskytte hende, og da hans makker fra modstandsbevægelsen, familiefaren Mogens, bliver taget i en aktion og tortureret i Shellhuset, kender Haralds hævntørst ingen grænser.
Samtidig bomber den heltemodige RAF-pilot Edward løs i Europas luftrum. Da han får til opgave at lede angrebet på Shellhuset, er han i sorg over at hans bedste ven Carter er styrtet ned med sit fly, men han er parat til at påtage sig den vanskelige opgave, for den danske modstandsbevægelse er trængt, og RAF er nødt til at lægge nazisternes hovedkvarter i grus for at højne moralen og destruere alle arkiver over frihedskæmpere.
På Den Franske Skole er Mogens datter, Malene, elev. Hun bliver drillet, fordi hun er venneløs, de kalder hende Alene-Malene. Men på den skæbnesvangre dag, da førstebølgen af britiske Mosquitojagere har fejlbombet skolen og facaden er styrtet i grus, får Edward øjenkontakt med pigen fra sit cockpit. Nazister har ikke fletninger! Noget er ravruskende galt, indser han.
Edward smadrer Shellhuset, men hans navigatør er blevet dræbt af fjendtlig ild, og flyet nødlander i Jylland. Mens han flygter, tænker han på pigen med fletningerne: ”Kommer hun hjem igen? Eller ligger hun død, dræbt af Edwards bomber, begravet i støv og murbrokker sammen med de andre børn? Knuste kroppe, knuste liv. Pludselig kan Edward ikke se andet end alle de rædsler, han har forårsaget. Ikke bare i dag, men under hele krigen, alle bombardementerne. Han kan ikke se andet end de døde børn, det er, som om de rejser sig fra deres grave, kigger på ham, bebrejder ham, anklager ham for at have taget deres liv, endnu før de foldede sig ud. Tankerne får det til at svimle for ham. Vreden. Mod sig selv. Mod Royal Air Force, de fine uniformer, medaljerne og talerne. Det hele er løgn. En stor, fed løgn. Bomberne rammer altid forkert.”
