Roman. Sara Omar skriver om ultimativ undertrykkelse og aggressiv livsvilje. Det litterære niveau er beskedent.

Den etniske bølges to hovedforfattere, Sara Omar og Yahya Hassan, er begge kendt som litterære rapporteurs fra en lukket verden. Og begge skriver ret dårligt. Hos Yahya Hassans står platituder side om side med sjældne øjeblikke af lyrisk kvalitet. I Sara Omars Skyggedanseren er det litterære niveau generelt bare beskedent.

Det forvisses man allerede om i romanens brutale prolog, der koger af nådesløs vold. Vi er i en landsby i irakisk Kurdistan i 1994. Kvindskrig og gråd, en bøn om nåde. En gruppe selvtægtsmænd kommer trækkende med stakkels Samira, som er blevet afsløret nøgen med en anden kvinde. De religiøse fanatikere lemlæster deres fange på åben gade, presser chili op i hendes skridt og skærer hendes ene bryst af. Sara Omar skriver:

”Det runde hul på hendes smukke, bronzefarvede brystkasse stod nu som en åben dør til hendes fængslede seksualitet (…) Hun lå og ventede på dødens fyrste, der skulle komme og høste den sidste dråbe af hendes sjæl, og så hans le for sig, mens mændene blev ved med at samle resterne af støvet chilimasse op fra jorden og smøre det op i hendes blødende køn.”

Til sidst slæber de blodtørstige mænd kvinden efter en bil ud ad grusvejen til kraniet knuses. Mens liget forsvinder i støvet, indlader den retfærdige Gawhar, som vi lærte at kende i Sara Omars debutroman Dødevaskeren, sig på en teologisk diskussion med morderne. Hun anklager dem for at misbruge islam. Mændene svarer nedladende, at hun ikke kan sin Koran. Så siger Gawhar til en veninden, at de må finde liget og vaske det. Veninden svarer: ”Gawhar, vi vasker hende, det er helt sikkert. Men ingen sæbe er ren nok til at bortvaske det vanvid, vi har set i dag.”

Med så rendyrket en konstruktion slutter prologen. Pointen er skovlet ind, vi behøver slet ikke at tænke selv.

Bedre bliver det ikke af at Sara Omar spækker sit sprog med lyrismer. Hverken ”en åben dør til hendes fængslede seksualitet”, ”dødens fyrste” eller ”den sidste dråbe af hendes sjæl” tilføjer poetisk kontrast til brutaliteten. Men så er vi advaret: Romanen skal ikke læses for sprogæstetikkens skyld.

Skyggedanseren er en direkte fortsættelse af Dødevaskeren (2017), en fortrædshistorie af dimensioner. Vi følger hovedpersonen Frmesk i krydsklip mellem den kurdiske landsby i 90’erne og livet i Danmark og Tyskland 2008-2011. Både som barn og voksen bliver hun udsat for vold, voldtægt og eksorcisme af mænd, der påstår, at hun er liderlig og besat af onde ånder.

Frmesk vokser op i tilsyneladende tryghed hos sine bedsteforældre, som hun tror er hendes rigtige mor og far. Morfaren er pensioneret oberst med et sekulært livssyn. Han hader Koranen, men elsker sin bogsamling. Mormoren er en besindig kvinde, religiøs, men fleksibel og tolerant. De to mundhugges kærligt om islams lyksaligheder, ser på hinanden med blide blikke og nærer en gensidig hengivenhed og respekt. Her findes romanens morale: Hun respekterer fritænkeri, han accepterer tro. Hvilket heltepar.

Hvad de kærlige bedsteforældre ikke ved, er, at den koranskole, som mormoren agter og ærer, er hjemsted for pædofili af værste karat. Ingen forstår, hvorfor pigen er holdt op med at tale – og hvad er det hun forsøger at udtrykke med sine mareridtsagtige tegninger? Da Frmesk er ti år, opdager kvinderne, at pigen er gravid. Gerningsmændene i Allahs navn er Frmesks onkel, der er imam, og byens øvrige notabiliteter.

Krydsklippene til 2008-2011 fortæller om Frmesk, der nu bor som flygtning med sin biologiske mor og små søskende i Århus. Forældrene er skilt, men faren dukker hele tiden om som en terroriserende voldsmand.

Mod alle odds er Frmesk begyndt at studere, og i al hemmelighed har hun både skrevet digte og en artikel om kvinderettigheder. Hele tiden må hun skrive i skjul, fordi forældrene bekæmper hendes emancipation.

Ved en oplæsningsaften møder Frmesk en kurdisk mand fra Tyskland, der elsker poesi. Han vil, når han bliver gift, give sin kone frihed til studier og litteratur. Det lyder som om, det er for godt til at være sandt. Det er det også. Frmesk, den evige dissident, kommer fra asken og i ilden.

Romanens titel refererer til morfarens historie om en skygge, der frigør sig fra en undertrykt piges krop. Skyggerne kan nemlig leve og danse, ”og selvom kroppene kan knækkes, vil sjælene altid kæmpe for deres frihed,” som det hedder med en karakteristisk overopulent formulering. Frmesk er skyggedanser. Og skyggedansker. Som sådan er romanen et kampskrift om ultimativ undertrykkelse, rensende ild og aggressiv livsvilje.

Men brutalitet og kvalitet kommer ikke ud på ét. Sara Omar har skrevet en skrækindjagende roman om mænd der hader kvinder, undertrykker kvinder, mishandler og dræber kvinder, mænd der i profetens hellige navn udfører deres misogyne magt med modbydelige vildskab. Man væmmes til sin grundvolds rystelse og forbander det blodbesudlede Koran-fanatiske paternalistiske patriarkat. Som budskabsroman er Skyggedanseren klar tale. Som skrivekunst er den dårligt nok middelmådig.
