Sexcensur. Tjekkisk radio bragte 35 sekunder oplæsning om bøssesex fra en roman af Alan Hollinghurst. Så kaldte et radiorådsmedlem forfatteren for en homoseksuel aktivist forklædt som forfatter.

”Hvad bliver det næste? Pædofili? Terror mod børn? Ritualdrab?”

Forargelsen var til at tage at føle på, da Tomáš Kňourek, journalist og medlem af Radiorådet for Český rozhlas, den statslige radiostation i Tjekkiet, i oktober harcelerede over det han kaldte ”åbningen af et kunstnerisk vindue”, hvilket absolut ikke skulle opfattes som en anerkendelse, men som en anklage.

Sagen var nemlig, at lytterne ifølge Tomáš Kňourek var blevet tilsmudset med ”pornografi”. Det begyndte eller så uskyldigt i sommer, da den tjekkiske radios svar på DR’s P1, kulturkanalen Radio Vltava, sendte en to timers udsendelse om vand som et litterært tema.

I udsendelsen indgik et citat på 35 sekunder fra den engelske forfatter Alan Hollinghursts roman The Line of Beauty, som modtog The Man Booker Prize i 2004 (og udkom året efter på dansk som I skønhedens tjeneste). Alan Hollinghurst er den britiske bøsseromans nestor, og selvom han i netop denne roman for første gang ikke kun skrev om mænd og mænd, men havde en kvinde som en af hovedpersonerne, var der fuldt blus på de eksplicit homoerotiske scener, blandt i en pool. Det var denne beskrivelse af mænd, der elsker med hinanden i vand, som ifølge Tomáš Kňourek var et lovlig stift stykke.

Først var der ingen, der hævede et øjenbryn, men så skrev en lytter på Facebook, at hendes barn havde lyttet med til genudsendelsen af den litterære montage om lørdagen – og lytteren syntes altså at det var upassende at sende bøssesex i æteren. Hun refererede i malende vendinger, hvad Alan Hollinghurst havde skrevet om Nicks diller og baller, og så spurgte hun: ”Hvordan kan I sende sådan noget lort klokken ti om morgenen?”

Radiostationen modtog aldrig nogen officiel klage fra lytteren, som i øvrigt slettede sin kommentar på Facebook. Men Tomáš Kňourek gik nu ind i sagen. Ifølge The Guardian kaldte han Alan Hollinghurst for en ”homoseksuel aktivist forklædt som forfatter”. Radiorådmedlemmet mente, at romanens ”obskøniteter’” gav et indblik i ”det sociale livs forfald i England, et land der frivilligt lader sig oversvømme af den mest modbydelige form for islam.” Lige præcis hvordan Tomáš Kňourek får skønlitterære beskrivelser af bøssesex til at hænge sammen med muslimsk indvandring (de to ting plejer sandt for dyden ikke at være allierede!) står ikke ganske klart. Men hans konklusion var tydelig: ”Endnu er Tjekkiet ikke så langt ude som England.”

I skønhedens tjeneste foregår i 80’ernes London under Margret Tatcher og er en skånselsløs satirisk udlevering af den konservative upper class. I romanens pludselige efterliv i Prag om omegn indgår den også i en hård kulturkamp. Det mener i hvert fald Petr Fischer, chefredaktør for kulturkanalen Radio Vltava. Han mener at angrebet på de 35 sekunders bøssesex er en skinmanøvre: ”Det er ikke Hollinghurst, der er problemet. Problemet er mig og frisindede mennesker som mig. Vi er blevet sat i bås med et liberalt menneskesyn – og det er det, som de ikke bryder sig om,” siger han med adresse til Tomáš Kňourek og hans kulturkonservative allierede.

Hvis Petr Fischer – som er forhenværende London-korrespondent for BBC’s nu nedlagte station på tjekkisk – havde håbet på sin chefs opbakning, blev han skuffet. Mens stationens jurister ikke mente, at Český rozhlas og Radio Vltava havde gjort noget galt, indkaldte generaldirektør René Zavoral til krisemøde i ledelsen, hvorefter han udsendte en meddelelse om, at stationen havde forbrudt sig mod den lov, der forbyder Český rozhlas at sende ”krænkende indhold” mellem klokken 6.00 og 22.00.

En talsmand for Český rozhlas, Jiří Hošna, afviste ellers overfor tjekkiske medier, at der var tale om pornografi i æteren, men han erkendte, at man ikke burde sende tekster med seksuelt indhold i radioen en lørdag morgen. Det var, sagde han, ”en dramaturgisk fejl”.

Chefredaktør Petr Fischer er blevet bakket op af meningsfæller, der ser presset på ham og Radio Vltava som en tjekkisk udgave af en værdipolitisk strømning, som ikke mindst kommer fra nabolandet Ungarn, hvor premierminister Viktor Orbán bruger kultur- og mediepolitikken særdeles offensivt i sit nationalkonservative projekt. Det samme gør, mener Petr Fischer, Tjekkiets præsident, Miloš Zeman.

Alan Hollinghursts tjekkiske oversætter Michala Marková blandede sig i sagen med et åbent brev til Radiorådet i Tjekkiet. På hjemmesiden for det internationale oversætterforbund, Conseil Européen des Associations de Traducteurs Littéraires (i øvrigt med formanden for Dansk Forfatterforening og Dansk Oversætterforbund, Morten Visby, som formand), gør hun rede for sin klage over klageren. Tomáš Kňourek har, siger Michala Marková, opfordret til censur, og hun advarer imod at lade begrænsningerne i den litterære ytringsfrihed vende tilbage i Tjekkiet. Censur er en ulykkelige del af den tjekkiske historie under kommunismen, siger hun.

Også Jakub Jirsa, der underviser i filosofi ved Karlsuniversitetet i Prag, har hejst flaget. Han siger, at fortidens censursynder kan vinde indpas igen. Sammen med 120 andre forfattere og intellektuelle har han ifølge The Guardian skrevet under på en støtteerklæring til Petr Fischer, og til avisen siger han, at stemningen i Tjekkiet for tiden minder om den, der fulgte på Sovjetunionens invasion af det daværende Tjekkoslovakiet.

Da de russiske tanks rullede ind i gaderne for at knuse foråret i Prag i 1968, kaldte magthaverne det for en ”normalisering”. Ifølge Jakub Jirsa sker det igen: ”En ny tids ‘normalisering’ er på vej. Alt vil være i et limbo, alt vil blive kedeligt og farveløst. Der vil ikke være forskel på den folkelige kontrol og statens kontrol.”
