Teater. Lars von Triers møghamrende ubehagelige historie om den forræderiske flygtning Grace som seværdigt teater i Odense.

Det var en grum lignelse, Lars von Trier fik kogt sammen, da han i 2003 skrev og instruerede Dogville om den gudsforladte flække (med en spejlvendt stavet gud i sit navn), som får skæbnesvangert besøg af Grace (som betyder nåde), der er på flugt fra en gangster, og nu søger om barmhjertighed og asyl i den lille usleravnekrog, hvor alfarvej ender og de stejle klipper begynder.

I sin tid spillede Nicole Kidman den ydmyge og ydmygede Grace med sådan en porcelænsdukkeagtig uhyggelighed, og i Tue Bierings iscenesættelse af den i forvejen særdeles teateragtige film, viser Rikke Lylloff samme yndige uskyldsrenhed og afgrundsdybe selvopofrelse. Som om en alt for uskyldig krop med et alt for smukt sind er blevet presset ned i den stramme guldpalletkjole uden viden om sin egen sexappel. Jo, Grace er det perfekte offer. Eller den perfekte forførerske? Først ved dramaets kulmination, indser vi, hvad der i virkeligheden gemte sig bag det smukke ydre.

Historien er i al sin enkelthed denne: Forfatterspiren Tom, der aldrig har skrevet andet, end en seddel, hvor der står ‘Stort og småt?’, vil ryste Dogville ud af sin evighedssøvn. Han får chancen, da Grace dukker op, så pludseligt som pistolskud i natten. Nu har idealisten noget at leve for. Selv forstår Grace ikke, at Tom vil hjælpe én, som han aldrig har mødt før. Han svarer, at vi alle har brug for at hjælpe nogen. Dogvilles borgere er først vragvillige, men går til sidst med til at give den fremmede kvinde husly på prøve i fjorten dage. Efter nogen tøven aftales det, at Grace kan gå til hånde som modydelse, og hun bliver en slags besøgsven for byens aparte skikkelser. Som det hedder: ”Grace havde blottet sin strube for byen og den svarede hende igen med en stor gave – venskab.”

Men fortjener hun dette venskab? Eller var den første skepsis på sin plads? Pludselig dukker sheriffen op med en efterlysningsplakat, og byen beslutter, at Grace nu skal besøge alle to gange om dagen, fordi risikoen ved at dække over hende er blevet større. Nu stiger både arbejdsbyrden og presset på Grace. Da hun mistænkes for at have stjålet penge, bliver hun lænket som en hund, og alle mændene tager sig retten til at forgribe sig på hende. Det er, hedder det, som hvis en bonde kneppede en ko: lidt flovt, men heller ikke mere. Voldtægterne er så ækle og depraverede, som de kan være. Nådesløsheden afløser nåden.

Nicolaj Spangaa har ikke nægtet sig selv noget i scenografien. Til gengæld har han krævet meget af de sytten skuespillere, der alle er på scenen hele tiden og har mere at tænke på, end blot replikkerne. Bagtæppet er et stort, lodret fjeld, der troner truende over byens syndige overflødighedsrod af møblementer, sceneinventar og tekniske remedier, som skuespillerne håndterer med stor sikkerhed, både vindmaskinen, det håndholdte lys, boomstangen og en række foley artist-effekter. På samme måde fungerer det perfekt, når de griber ud efter grimme gummimasker, der transformerer dem til børn.

Dogville er en moderne western og en variation over ‘en fremmed kommer til byen’. Det er en møghamrende ubehagelig historie, som svælger i fornedrelse, menneskelig dårskab, amoral, og selvgodhed. Hvad Lars von Triers historie til gengæld mangler i narrativ styrke, er en ordentlig slutning. At Grace ikke vil forblive det uskyldsrene porcelænsdukkeansigt, som hun ankom som, er vi aldrig i tvivl om. Men jorden er aldrig ordentlig gødet for forhistorien om flugten og afdækningen af hvem hun er og hvad hun bliver. Da vi når frem til hævnens time med high noon i hovedgaden, hvor Grace vil løse det, hun kalder ‘Problemet Dogville’, virker det postuleret. Det samme gør konflikten bag konflikten, nemlig at Grace har kaldt sin far (gangsteren) for arrogant. Arrogant kan hun selv være med al sin opofrelse og tilgivelse, hvormed hun gør sig bedre end andre, mener han. Så må Grace bevise, hvilken byrd hun er af, når faren nu tilbyder hende en del af sin magt. Snildt skrevet, men overfladisk. Og umådeligt effektsøgende i finalen, der er ren, rå renselse.

Det er et godt samarbejdende hold, der bringer forestillingen sikkert i havn, og man kunne rose fællesskabet ud fra devisen ingen nævnt, ingen glemt. Men hovedrollerne skal have et par ord: Som Grace har Rikke Lylloff yndigheden med hjemmefra. Hun forener flot det forførende med det forræderiske, men replikkerne tumler lidt for ofte konturløse ud af hendes mund. Som idealistiske og flegmatiske Tom, der ender med at gå med flokken, er altid gode Benjamin Kitter stadig god, men dog set bedre. Der efterlades dog ingen tvivl om, at turen bør gå til byen for enden af blindgyden, Dogville/Graceland/Odense.
