Trilogi. Der vil altid være tre for lidt i den lille bygd, der mistede tre sønner i krigen. Helga Flatland afslutter sin vigtige romanserie om krisens anatomi.

Der findes datoer, som brændemærker dagen og stigmatiserer sproget, fordi noget alt for grusomt fandt sted. Sådan en dato er den 11. september. Men i den lille, navnløse bygd, hvor den norske forfatter Helga Flatlands romantrilogi udspiller sig, er datoen den 14. juni 2007. Det var den dag, hvor Tarjei, Kristian og Trygve kørte på en vejsidebombe i Afghanistan, og det lille samfund mistede tre af sine sønner.

Der findes ingen helhed, som afslutter trilogien, åbner hjemme hos bygdens læge, Ragnhild, en decemberdag i 2012. Før Tarjei døde var de udelukkende truende, klaustrofobisk høje og mørke, som om de ville trække sig sammen og sluge hele bygden når som helst. Men nu er de beskyttende, lukker resten af verden ude, og jeg slipper for at forholde mig til den. Slipper for indsyn, slipper for udsyn.”

Hvidvin af en kaffekop. Så enkelt kan billedet tegnes af en mor, der ikke alene har mistet sin søn, men også mistet det meste af sig selv, herunder relationen til ægtemanden, Hallvard. I trilogiens midterste roman hørte vi, hvordan han gik i staldene for at se til okserne, men dag efter dag sank han ned i apati og depression, indtil vanrøgten blev opdaget og dyrene aflivet. Nu er Hallvard så småt kommet til hægterne igen, ligesom Karin langsomt genoptager sit arbejde på bygdens lille bibliotek. Men nu, hvor hun er ‘relativt velfungerende’, fyldes hun af dårlig samvittighed: det føles som om, hun forlader Tarjei, den døde dreng.

Helga Flatlands trilogi (der begyndte med Bliv hvis du kan, rejs hvis du må og Alle vil hjem, ingen vil tilbage) er en skildring af krisens anatomi, ikke af krigens.
