Myte. Lea Marie Løppenthins reproducerer myten om Demeter med et bøjeligt og føjeligt forhold til realisme.

Noget må jeg have overset. Jeg har i hvert fald ikke gennemskuet hvorfor omslaget på Lea Marie Løppenthins nye roman viser mesterarkitekten Finn Juhls sarte og elegante farvesætning af en DC-8’er fra 1957. Jo, der bliver fløjet i romanen, bagsidecitatet handler endda om at rejse og pendle, men bogdesignets æstetiske subtilitet leger med vores fiktionsforståelse. Det samme gør den underspillede titel: Sæson. Og hele romanen.

Lea Marie Løppenthins realismebegreb er bøjeligt og føjeligt. Magisk realisme, sagde man engang om den litteratur, hvor det konkret genkendelige med største naturlighed stod side om side med det højst hypotetiske. I Lea Marie Løppenthins tilfælde giver det imidlertid bedre mening at tale om mytisk realisme, ikke magisk, for som en slutnote indikerer, er Sæson en genskrivning af den græske myte om Demeter og Persefone, hendes datter.

Til forståelse af romanen må jeg repetere, hvad lektor Falkesgaard lærte os i oldævl på Frederiksberg Gymnasium for 40 år siden: Korngudinden Demeters datter, Kore, bliver røvet af Hades, der regerer i Dødsriget. Demeter, som hersker over markerne, gør jorden gold for at presse de øvrige guder til at skaffe hende datteren tilbage. Det lykkes delvis, men fordi Kore har spist en kerne fra et udødelighedssymboliserende granatæble, er hun tvunget til at tilbringe en tredjedel af året nede hos Hades, nu under navnet Persefone. Med dette mor-datter-drama møder vi hovedguderne i de frugtbarhedsritualer, der kaldes de eleusinske mysterier.

Ib Michael skrev en Orfeus og Eurydike-roman, Orbit (2010), som en del af et international mytegenskrivningsprojekt, Kristina Stoltz baserede På ryggen af en tyr (2014) på myten om Zeus forvandling, og netop nu kommer amerikanske Madelaine Millers bestseller om Kirke hertil i triumftog med en halv million solgte eksemplarer i USA. For bare at nævne nogle få eksempler.

Sæson efterlader mig forvirret over eksperimentets uklarhed, men også forsonet med forfatterens forsøg på at skrabe i stoffet og genbruge mytens materie. Hvis man kan sit græske stof, eller hvis man læser på lektien, vil man opdage forbindelseslinjerne mellem myte og roman, men Lea Marie Løppenthins er hverken kustode eller kurator i en museal verden, hun er en frit fabulerende forfatter, og ikke for fin til at lade Frank placere sig selv og Per udenfor den klassiske mytologi, nemlig i moderne svensk børnelitteratur: ”Et par fra litteraturhistorien, jeg kan finde på at sammenligne os med, er Peddersen og Findus.”

Så altså: Lea Marie Løppenthins mytereproduktion er en forsøgsivrig stilfragmenteret ”undersøgelse” af moderskab, mytestof og erindringsstof (tror jeg), fortalt af Frank gennem et sitrende sind, og hvor et øresvangerskab, der resulterer i et talende insekt, spiller en betydende rolle. Skønlitteratur med talende dyr i realistiske rammer har jeg traditionelt et ret anstrengt forhold til, og det ændrer Persefone ikke på. En røvet datter, dybt begrædt, har alle dage været godt stof, så om ikke andet minder romanen os om de de gamle myters magtfulde uopslidelighed.
